Malachi Rourke is a young man from Five Lakes Colony who is chosen to undergo the Testing. Malachi succesfully passes the first test but then dies during the second test.
Death
Malachi dies during the second test where they have to choose poisonous versus non-poisonous plants, and then eat their choice. Malachi ingests a poisonous plant, and soon becomes drowsy. While trying to fix a mechanical box, he accidentally pulls on a wrong wire and sends a nail through his eye, which kills him.
